I've recently started "Burst" training to see if the reported benefits hold up.
Burst training promises to ramp up your metabolism, by only exercising 10-15 minutes, every other day. If you didn't catch that I'll say it again, you can loose more weight and get stronger by only exercising for 45-60 minutes a week!
How does burst training accomplish this seeming miracle level of cost/benefit? Most say its quite simple...
Burst Training Explained
Burst training is exercising at 90% to 100% of your maximum effort for 30 to 60 seconds, then you rest for 1 to 2 minutes and go again. You repeat this 4 to 6 times, then your done. Not only are you done for that day, we are told to not exercise for the entire next day.
Doctors and trainers that suggest burst training explain that by pushing your body to this extreme level in short bursts, cause it to consume its glycogen stores. By stopping before you body has to move into fat burning mode, it then spends the next 24-36 hours working on converting fat to glycogen.
What about strength training?
Most sources I found suggested that you should do your strength training on the same day as your burst training. Most say that strength training is essentially burst training anyway.
If you do follow this routine it means your only exercising for about an hour every other day.
